Metallurgical Fire I hope we haven’t seen the last of Lago. Sea of Duress is an album I slept on when it came out, but it’s definitely one of my favorites for death metal. The production is excellent. It makes the album better than a lot of Incantation’s catalog, for those comparing the two. Hugely underrated band. Favorite track: Soiled is the Crown.

Name's Dalton LAGO. Seasick riffs lash and disorient the mind. Sea foam stings the eyes, its bitter silt parches the throat. A pummeling rhythmic churn propels me forward on creaking planks that groan under heaving stress as heavy, tattered sails hold fast. From the helm, the wheel gripped firmly in blistered hands, bellows a voice in a gravelly roar, “Moby fucking Dick, I’m coming for your ass.”

Or maybe they just sound like Incantation and Morbid Angel. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤘💀

Sir Aptly Not Named They did it again. Fantastic album with what feels like a darker atmosphere than Tyranny. Favorite track: Day of Wrath.

Phoenix, Arizona's LAGO was founded in January 2010 by guitarist and vocalist Cole Jacobsen. Upon completing their initial lineup with bassist Garrett Thomas, the band released their first EP, ‘Marianas’ on Pale Horse Records to critical acclaim in November 2010. LAGO then erupted into the scene with their ‘Tyranny’ debut LP through Battleground Records in 2014, an album that showed the band delivering a ferocious brew of classic but modernized death metal, surrounded in a blackened fog, wholly bearing an oppressive atmosphere. The record received acclaim from a wide array of respected media outlets and fans alike. Following some lineup restructuring, LAGO — guitarist/vocalist Cole Jacobsen, bassist/vocalist Garrett Thomas, lead guitarist Gus Barr, and drummer Neil Koch — returned with a revamped and refreshed attack, presenting the dense “Dominion” leading off the new split 7”, which included a bonus digital DL song entitled "Catacombs and Oceans". The band is now set to unleash its’ highly anticipated ‘Sea of Duress’ showcasing once again the bands original and truly unique style.

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten
